Amherst Town Center

Dear Amherst Residents,

The Amherst Chamber of Commerce is reaching for support on an inappropriate development project being proposed on Maple Road in Amherst. The Chamber is even reaching out of state for support.

The Chamber is very much in favor of the proposed Amherst Town Centre on Maple Road. It is their job to promote such a project, even if it is directly opposed to the $700,000 adopted (and ignored) Town Comprehensive Plan. Currently, the 34-acre piece of property (formerly the Gun Club ) is zoned as a Community Facility property; property that could be developed within the current zoning ordinance and produce a profitable return for the developer and benefit the Town of Amherst.

The proposal, will be a regional attraction, drawing customers from throughout Western New York and Southern Ontario. The concern is that the current infrastructure can not handle such a development. The proposed “lifestyle center” does not "fit" within the neighborhood and most importantly, defies the Comprehensive Plan. The roadway leading to this development will subject the motoring public and pedestrians to undue risk of injury and death. The traffic generated from this development will over saturate the intersection of Maple and North North Forest Rd., dropping the level of service of that intersection to an unacceptable level of "F".

The Fairways Group is asking its members to reject this project and protect your quality of life. Protect the safety of your family. Protect your investment. This project is not in Amherst's best interest.

To show your support, please take a few minutes to sign a letter to the Amherst Town Board.
